Dear GLJ Allies,
A few weeks ago, three brave Indonesian garment workers – Dinar, Leni and Dedeh – brought the demands of thousands of garment workers across South and Southeast Asia to Nike’s doorstep. They came in representation of Garteks, GSBI and SPN unions in Indonesia as well as over 20 additional garment worker unions from Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
How did Nike welcome these workers, all of whom have spent years producing Nike shoes?
Watch this video to find out. Then share the video on your personal and organizational social media TODAY to make sure their message reaches all corners of the world.
Labor unions and social movement organizations across the US met with the delegation and saw first-hand the groundbreaking organizing and campaigning led by women garment workers in South and Southeast Asia. And, as Dinar, Leni and Dedeh made clear, Nike is scared of the growing voice of workers.
All three workers are now back home, back to work, and back to organizing and building power with their coworkers. More than ever, now is the time for allies like you to join the fight for Nike to raise wages and negotiate human rights protections for the workers who make its products.
