On Monday evening, Donald Trump posted “that there will be a Complete and Total
CEASEFIRE” between Israel and Iran and that by sometime today, “the war will be
... ENDED!”

Let’s hope so. But of course Trump is habitually unreliable, so we shall see.

Regardless, is this how the United States should conduct international
relations? Are we really OK with the president unilaterally — in violation of
the law and the Constitution — bombing a country with which we are not at war?

* It’s true that Trump is not the first president to deploy military force
without the required congressional authorization. That is no excuse. Those
presidents were wrong then. And, with this aggressive act of war, Trump is
wrong now.

* Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York) went so far as to say that Trump’s
“disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation
of the Constitution” as well as “absolutely and clearly grounds for
impeachment.”

* Heck, even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia) — who is as MAGA as it gets
— denounced the bombing, which she correctly identified as influenced by
“warmongers, military industrial complex contracts, and neocon tv
personalities.”

Whether it’s this attack on Iran, the regime’s ongoing campaign of militant
xenophobia, or his record of sexual harassment and assault — so much of Trump’s
behavior is all of a piece. It is the behavior of a bully. Of a person without
empathy or impulse control. Of a person drunk on power. Of a person who believes
he is above the law.

Add your name if you agree that — ceasefire or not — Donald Trump was wrong to
bomb Iran in violation of the law and the Constitution.
