50 years ago, Roe v. Wade was the law of the land.

But today, my granddaughters (like baby Ella below) have fewer rights than I did fifty years ago.

This backsliding is not normal.

Three years ago today, an extreme right-wing court rolled back women’s Constitutional rights. Let me be clear: functional democracies don’t take away human rights — they expand them.

We should be marking the 52nd anniversary of Roe this year. Instead, we see news reports about women dying preventable deaths due to abortion bans, women facing legal consequences for miscarrying a pregnancy, and radical state legislatures attempting to classify abortion as homicide. It’s sickening.

But here’s the thing: decisions got us here, and decisions can get us out. We’re in a fight for our freedom, and I refuse to accept a United States in which my granddaughter has less freedom than I had.
