Why us? Why Los Angeles?

Why did the Trump Administration deploy the military to our city, lie about what’s happening here, and insult our leaders? Why are they delivering a body blow to our economy and our people?

Because they are running an experiment to see how much power they can grab.

Let me say that again: They are using Los Angeles as a test case to see just how far they can go in seizing power from local leaders, in defying democracy, and in rolling back civil rights and civil liberties.

If they can get away with deploying the military, spreading disinformation, and undermining our city’s leadership here — in the second largest city in the country, in the fourth largest economy in the world — then they believe they can get away with it anywhere.

No city in America should be used like that, much less Los Angeles. And I won’t let it happen.
