Hi there,
We had a great turnout at Greater Greater Washington's first standing happy hour at Sonny's last week. Thanks so much to those of you who made it out in the unpredictable weather.
The next one's July 16, 2025, at the same time (6–8 p.m.) and same place (the pizza shop). Sign up here [[link removed]] . Hope to see you there, or perhaps in August, on the 20th [[link removed]] .
Here are some additional ways to stay engaged with us:
* Tell a friend to subscribe to our emails [[link removed]] !
* Donate [[link removed]] to us—individual supporters are critical to enabling us to advocate for more housing, more affordable housing, fewer trips by car, frequent and reliable transportation, and fairer land-use practices.
* Read Do Something [[link removed]] , our weekly column, written by my colleague Dan Reed and me, about how you can think about, and take action on, housing, transportation, and land use throughout the region.
* Check our events page [[link removed]] for relevant things to do. Next up: This Sunday, June 29, at 2 p.m., we'll be cohosting, along with the DSA Green New Deal Working Group and Amalgamated Transit Union 689, a happy hour [[link removed]] to mark the changeover of WMATA's bus routes [[link removed]] and to get excited about the prospect of taxing land [[link removed]] to fund transit [[link removed]] and build homes [[link removed]] . And, save the date for a GGWash happy hour in Ward 3 on July 24—signup page coming soon.
* If you'd like to try your hand at writing for us, submit a pitch [[link removed]] !
* Share, or apply for, our open Development and Communications Director position [[link removed]] . (Plus, get to know the new hires on our Maryland team, Mark Clements [[link removed]] and Avery Smedley [[link removed]] , and look out for an introductory post from our new associate editor, Melanie Pincus, soon.)
Oh, and a few things we've published recently that I've enjoyed that you might, too: The third [[link removed]] installment of David Edmondson's explainers [[link removed]] about [[link removed]] the not-great proposal to end Rock Creek Parkway's reversible lanes, Pete Rodrigue's incredible dive [[link removed]] into the effects of downzoning Lanier Heights, and a delightful Bikeshare Beat update [[link removed]] from Samuel Littauer.
Looking forward to seeing you around this summer.
Thanks,
Alex
Hi there,
Join Greater Greater Washington this Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 6–8 p.m., at Sonny's on Georgia Avenue for a happy hour. There's no particular occasion, other than getting our friends, readers, and supporters to hang out together offline. Sign up here [[link removed]] !
This is the first of our newly planned standing happy hours, which will be the third Wednesday of the month at Sonny's. If you can't make it this time, no worries—there's always next month, and the month after that, and the month after that. While this is in DC, it's not specific to DC, and I hope you'll stop by regardless of where you live. Sonny's is walkable from the Columbia Heights and Georgia Avenue Metrorail stations, and is on the soon-to-be-renamed [[link removed]] Georgia Avenue bus lines. There's plenty of bike parking and a nearby CaBi station.
Please RSVP [[link removed]] so we know you're coming, and mark your calendar [[link removed]] for future third-Wednesday happy hours with GGWash. If you have any questions, you can respond to this email with them.
See you Wednesday evening!
Thank you,
Alex
