John,
I want to share something really personal with you all today.
In 2022, when far-right extremists on the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, I was sitting in the same healthcare facility where I once had an abortion at 18 after I was sexually assaulted.
We then learned Missouri’s own extremist politicians had made our state the first in the nation to enact a near-total abortion ban. Sitting alongside U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, healthcare providers, storytellers, and abortion fund administrators, we were shocked and horrified. However, in that moment, we also knew our fight was far from over.
Now, three years later, we’ve watched the GOP execute their plan to ban abortion nationwide—bit by bit, state by state. They’ve targeted IVF. They’ve tried to ban birth control. And this month, the Trump administration rescinded emergency abortion care protections—stripping away a Biden-era rule that literally saved lives.
This move has only added to the utter confusion, especially in states with extreme restrictions. Doctors are now left unsure whether they can legally provide life-saving care at all.
As someone who has had an abortion, I will ALWAYS fight to affirm access to abortion care as a human right and to expand access to this life-saving healthcare.
We need leaders in Congress who understand that abortion is healthcare; leaders who will fight to repeal the Comstock Act, defend access to medication abortion, and codify reproductive freedom into law. And we’re building a slate of candidates who will do just that. But we need your help to fuel this work.
It’s been three years. I think it’s past time we truly end this madness. Will you make a contribution to Politivist Action PAC right now to help us elect bold, pro-choice progressives across the country?
