Hi friend,
Three years ago today, the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, ending nearly 50 years of federal protection for the right to an abortion. Since then, millions of women have lost access to essential reproductive health care — especially in states that have enacted outright abortion bans or severe restrictions. The consequences have been devastating: women who have died because they were denied necessary care; women forced to travel hundreds of miles for care; doctors threatened with prosecution; and communities left without critical health services.
Now, Congress is considering a budget that would slash funding for Medicaid and other safety-net programs, putting even more life-saving women’s health programs at risk. While Medicaid is already barred from covering abortions in most cases, these proposed cuts would further limit access to cancer screenings, birth control, prenatal and postpartum care, and other vital services — especially for low-income women who already face the greatest barriers.
We do not have to accept a future where our daughters have fewer rights and less access to care than the generations before them. That’s why the Clinton Global Initiative’s Reproductive Justice Action Network is working with partners across the country to make maternal health and reproductive care more equitable, inclusive, and accessible. Together, our work is advancing real solutions to support women and families, including:
expanding postpartum care for new mothers;
leveraging technology and AI to improve maternal health outcomes;
supporting Black doulas and community health workers; and more.
This is a pivotal moment. We can either let fear and injustice dictate our future, or we can come together to defend and expand the rights and care that every woman deserves. Protecting our health and our futures will take all of us — organized, determined, and united.
If you care about women’s lives, health, and futures, I hope you’ll stand with us today.
With resolve,
Dr. Chelsea Clinton
