John, it’s Valerie Foushee -
Today marks 3 years since the United States Supreme Court issued their ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, effectively overturning the protections of 1973’s Roe v. Wade.
Over the last 3 years, this decision has had disastrous consequences for the right to bodily autonomy and access to healthcare for folks across the country. And these rights are in peril more than ever before in Trump’s America.
In his first 5 months in office, Trump has:
❌ Refused to defend the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, which requires hospitals to provide life-saving treatment to all patients in emergency situations - including life-saving abortions
❌ Frozen millions of dollars in funding for Title X, the only federal program dedicated to providing Americans with family planning and preventative reproductive health care services including birth control, STI testing, HPV vaccinations, infertility services, and more
❌ Scrubbed federal websites of critical information concerning reproductive health, including taking down ReproductiveRights.gov and erased all mention of reproductive care from the Department of Health and Human Services website
In addition, Trump and the GOP are working to pass their “big beautiful bill,” which would strip millions of Americans of their Medicaid access, which funds 75% of publicly funded family planning reproductive services and 40% of births across the country.
The solution is quite clear: Congress must pass a federal law protecting a woman’s right to choose. But with a GOP majority in both chambers, it’s not looking very likely.
That’s why I’m working to defend my seat and back my Democratic colleagues in vulnerable swing districts so we can regain a majority in 2026. Will you give $10 or anything you can to make this goal a reality?
Thank you,
Valerie Foushee
