The Voice America Needs To HearPeople who depend on Medicaid are crying out for their lives. Our job is to amplify their stories.
Moral Mondays exist to create a platform for the people who will be most directly impacted by immoral policies. Theirs are the voices that have the moral authority to speak to our elected leaders about the consequences of their decisions. If we want to reconstruct democracy, we have to amplify their cries for justice. When Sloan Meek and Suvya Carrol reached out to say they wanted to come to Washington, DC and share their story before the Senate votes on a bill that would take healthcare away from 16 million people, we knew we needed to do everything we could to get their story to you. Thank you to Our Moral Moment subscribers for helping us build an independent media space where stories like this can be told. Thank you to the Golden family - Franklin, Davis, and Lilly - for working together to record and produce this story. And thanks to Sloan, Suvya, and their friend Lee Anderson - The Meek Squad - for writing and performing the songs that serve as a soundtrack to this short film. We hope you’ll help all of us share this story. Your Senator will likely vote on this bill before the end of the week. They need to hear this story. We also hope this story moves you to learn more about the people in your life who could be harmed by the big, ugly bill before the Senate right now. You can call your Senators and ask them to vote no on cuts to Medicaid and other healthcare via the Congressional switchboard: 202-224-3121 And you can make plans to join us June 30, either in-person or online, for our next Moral Monday in DC by registering here. You’re currently a free subscriber to Our Moral Moment w/ Bishop William Barber & Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove. Our Moral Moment is and always will be a free publication. We’re grateful to those who opt for a paid subscription to support this work. |
