Hey RG fam,
RG alum Margi here, jumping in today to support RG’s Membership Drive [[link removed]] because RG continues to be an important part of my life! I’ll be sharing my learnings and resources from my recent $3.5M wealth redistribution process below. 👇
RG was my political home well before I knew what that term or being an organizer meant. Through RG I learned how to relationally raise and move money, at scales beyond what I have personal access to, and to joyfully step into collectively held power as a donor organizer for reparations and land back. RG gave me the foundation of clear political analysis and long term relationships I needed to embark on my redistribution journey and also taught me skills I’ve relied on in my paid work organizing for climate justice in my hometown. RG helped me find and grow into a movement ecosystem niche where my purpose and value are far greater than the money I have access to!
This movement takes all of us.

I attended my first MMMC way back in 2013 when I was paralyzed by shame and grief about my inherited wealth. Over the subsequent years of participating in praxis groups, attending gatherings, and donor organizing through listservs and giving circles I’ve made lifelong connections with mentors and peers who I still regularly reach out to for advice and collaboration.
Each time I have returned to an RG space , in person or online, I have found a nourishing regrounding in my political home along with clear pathways for deepening my analysis, skills, and community. I have given regularly to RG throughout my time as a member and alum so others can shift from isolation into community and access the tools to move from paralysis analysis into action.
Flash forward to today and as scary as it still is—I’m telling my wealth redistribution story publicly. I know how important it is for members of the wealthiest 10% to speak out about how we’re interrupting our own wealth accumulation and fighting extractive systems instead of hoarding!
So with that, here’s a blog [[link removed]] and podcast [[link removed]] and a nuts and bolts overview of my process [[link removed]] of shifting power to three movement leaders who directed $3.5 million to Black and Indigenous land justice without strings attached! We hope that folks will be able to use what we learned to encourage and strengthen future wealth redistribution efforts to move money and shift power.
Like many of us, I was raised to see my inheritance as my safety net, but I’ve never felt more clear that actual safety lies in the durable power I’m building through taking collective action in deep reciprocity and accountability with community organizers who know I have their back and I know have my back. In challenging times like this, it’s paramount for us to resist isolation. I hope you’ll join me and step into our collective power as part of RG’s membership drive.
