Together we will make sense of the lackluster results of the Albany session. Was it a victory for the New York State Chemical Council? What's the status of Cap & Invest? Roses, thorns, and how can we be a more effective workgroup? Also, Trump's Big Ugly Bill will have devastating impacts for climate, Medicaid, education, SNAP, and many other vital services. Do 350BK members want to take action on what has been called "The Death Bill"? Register to join this meeting on Zoom tonight, June 24 at 7:30pm.

Stop the Williams NESE pipeline. Birddog with us!
As we reported in our last newsletter, the Oklahoma fossil fuel company Williams is coming back, trying to push through the construction of its NESE (Northeast Supply Enhancement) pipeline in the waters off NYC. If built, this would be a wallet-busting, climate-busting project that would churn toxins from the seabed up into our waters. Want to stop it? One tactic we'll use this summer will be "birddogging" Governor Hochul, showing up whenever she makes an NYC appearance. Join the team and show up whenever you can! Email Sara G. at [email protected].
Join Power Hour to give thanks!
Mondays at noon
Thanks a hundred! Join Power Hour for the rewarding work of thanking our legislative champions for passing a portion of the NY HEAT Act last week. This bill repeals the rule that allows utility companies to hook up new customers within 100 feet of a gas line at the expense of existing customers. A meaningful step towards fairness and affordability, this will help stop expansion of new gas pipelines in New York. Thank you to our amazing Power Hour participants, who showed up week after week to pressure our legislators to pass this bill. You are amazing! Join us Mondays at noon on Zoom and help us win more victories like this one. Sign up here.

350BK member profile: Meet the future, meet Asher!
"I am a member of the Legislation and the Arts and Ideas workgroups, and am working with some other members on developing the ‘Facing Our Future’ series of events.
“I used to just think of climate work as helping to prevent future disaster or extinction. But in the last couple months I have been reading a lot of literature around Degrowth Economics and I'm starting to broaden my idea of what our work can accomplish. I want to help usher humanity into a new era, where we do not see ourselves as above or opposing the natural world, but as a part of it. I think what is so difficult but vital about climate work is we are fighting against the idea of human exceptionalism, that we are humans and so we can do whatever we want with no consequences. I hope that we can get to a place as a species where we find our joy and pride in how we support our world, not conquer it."
Asher, a graduating high school student volunteering with 350BK, is so smart and funny and has been an important member of the Legislation and the Arts, Ideas, and Events workgroups. He has been so inspirational for our community, so we picked Asher’s brain for books, music, and favorite food:
- Reading: The Case For Degrowth by Giorgos Kallis, Susan Paulson, Giacomo D'Alisa, and Federico DeMaria. “It completely changed the way I think about climate’s relationship to the economy.”
- Listening: “Book of Love” by Book of Love, “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road” by Lucinda Williams, and “The Blueprint” by Jay-Z
- Comfort Food: Pecorino/poppyseed pasta. “It sounds weird but it's fabulous."

LL97 reporting requirements are coming up. Here's where to get help
In 2019 NYC passed Local Law 97, which requires large buildings to steadily increase their energy efficiency and so lower greenhouse gas emissions. The vast majority of buildings meet the first set of standards, but some buildings struggle. Do you live in a multifamily building larger than 25,000 square feet? Does your co-op/condo board or your landlord need help complying? The nonprofit NYC2030 can help. Here's their Retrofit Initiative page and the form to ask for help. Or contact them at [email protected].
Get involved in one of our workgroups!
