Three years ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its devastating Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision — overturning Roe v. Wade and eliminating the federal right to abortion.
We cannot overstate the damage this decision has caused.
Since Dobbs, there has been a wave of extreme abortion bans across red states. Today, 1 in 3 adult women lives in a state where abortion is banned.
We’ve heard story after story of women being denied abortion care even in life-threatening situations, or women bleeding out in hospital parking lots because the law does not allow for them to be treated in their home state.
This isn’t a tragic accident — it was the goal.
Dobbs happened because Donald Trump appointed right-wing extremists to one-third of the Supreme Court during his first presidency. The far-right majority threw out more than 50 years of legal precedent overnight.
Now, in his second term, he could have the opportunity to nominate even more anti-abortion extremists to the highest court in the land. He’s already appointed MAGA loyalists who’ve fought abortion rights to open seats on federal courts.
