Dear Friend,Â
At 15 years old, John Doe created an account on the dating app Grindr. He was lonely and often bullied at school for being on the autism spectrum. He thought he could find some companionship on Grindr. Â
But instead,
Grindr matched John with four unknown adult males.
When he met up with the men in person, they raped him several times.Â
Undoubtedly, those four adult men shoulder the blame for John’s rape. But so does Grindr.Â
Grindr claimed to be an
18+ dating app
, yet it
aggressively marketed to children.
It did not verify John’s age when he signed up for an account. Instead, it welcomed the child onto the app, geolocated him, and matched him with nearby adult predators. Â
Yet when John’s family filed a lawsuit against Grindr for its active role in this tragedy, the case was dismissed under
Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.Â
Section 230 shields tech companies from taking liability for dangerous products. It has been the greatest enabler of sexual exploitation for far too long. We need
YOUR HELP
to ensure this does not continue.Â
Your gift is essential if we want to end Section 230.
We have made some big strides to end Section 230, including a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in February, featuring experts, including two NCOSE advisors, who discussed how Section 230 shields those who profit from exploitation.Â
But talk is not enough.
We need ACTION.
Now is the time to
make the most of your gift
, with a matching grant opportunity.
A donor has graciously offered to match all donations up to $75,000 from now until June 30
