BREAKING, John:
The U.S. Supreme Court just made it easier for the Trump administration to rapidly deport people to countries they aren’t from without due process.
While a federal judge previously ruled that immigrants must be given a “meaningful opportunity" to contest their deportation to a third-party country due to fear of torture, persecution, or death, the Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to step in and let them off the hook — and that’s exactly what they did.
All but the three liberal justices put a hold on the federal court’s order, allowing Trump to go back to rapidly deporting people to megaprisons in countries they aren’t even from.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote a scathing dissent in which she said her colleagues stepped in "to grant the government emergency relief from an order it has repeatedly defied” and are "rewarding lawlessness." She also pointed out that this decision will mean "thousands will suffer violence in far-flung locales."
This is yet another example of the far-right majority on the Supreme Court letting Trump skirt the Constitution and rules of law to carry out his dangerous agenda.
We won’t sit by and let MAGA extremists continue to take over our courts to rip away people’s rights like this. But we can’t succeed without your support.
