Without the approval or request of the Governor of California, President Trump deployed California’s own National Guard servicemembers to the streets of Los Angeles for law enforcement purposes in response to protests. And then he sent in U.S. Marines.

These actions are an alarming disregard for the safety of Los Angeles residents and service members alike. Local authorities should be able to do their jobs without the chaos and escalation of federal interference and intimidation.

This illegal deployment of service members and military resources to target civilians exercising their First Amendment right to protest is undemocratic.
