We’ve seen this playbook before – unsubstantiated claims of immediate aggression and threat as we send more and more of our brave men and women into harm's way.
But as horrific reports continue to come out from Iran and Qatar, we need to reconcile one clear fact: This is Donald Trump’s war.
However, the Constitution gives Congress the sole authority to declare war.
NOT the President.
NOT the Pentagon.
And certainly NOT from simply tweeting through the middle of the night.
Thankfully, there are still some brave men and women in Congress who recognize this, and are passing their War Powers resolution through the chamber, which would force Trump and his war-hungry friends to receive congressional approval before going any further with Iran.
It would also terminate the use of U.S. armed forces against Iran without Congress' expressed approval.
John, we can still get out of this before countless lives are ruined. But we have to act NOW.
Join me in demanding passage of the War Powers resolution in Congress, and an end to Trump’s unilateral, costly war with Iran.
We can not be dragged into another conflict without the consent of Congress that has the potential of rocking the global economy and further destabilizing the Middle East.
We must stand up, reassert our authority, and put an end to Trump’s reckless power grabs. And I appreciate your standing alongside me in this fight.
