The assassination of Rep. Melissa Hortman and the shooting of Sen. John Hoffman weren’t just political violence—they were gun violence.
A man with a hit list of Democratic officials walked into their homes and pulled the trigger. He had a weapon, a motive fueled by online hate, and no barriers to act.
This is the reality we live in. Hate is easy to find. Guns are even easier.
And when political rage meets unregulated access to firearms, the result is deadly—again and again.
This is not new. From Charlottesville to Buffalo, the Tree of Life Synagogue to the halls of Congress on January 6, we’ve seen it: Ideology doesn’t kill. Guns do.
Let’s be clear about what enabled this:
The shooter in Minnesota wasn’t just hateful. He was armed and enabled. And the system worked exactly as it was built to—to protect guns over people.
We refuse to live in a country where dissent equals death, where disagreement puts a target on your back, and where anyone can get a gun and make their hate real.
We’ve lost too many. And we’re not losing another.
