At Fair Fight, we know democracy isn’t something that defends itself — it takes people. It takes action. It takes showing up again and again, using a multitude of tactics — and organizing together as we face a far-right regime that’s taking a wrecking ball to our freedoms in an effort to destroy American democracy as we know it.

We work to stop, slow, or mitigate the harm of voter suppression, protect and expand access to the ballot, and elect leaders across the South (from the local to federal level) who will defend independent elections and our freedom to vote. We do this by organizing and working in coalition at the local, regional, and national levels, and training volunteers to support our mission.

Our team has tracked the far-right plot to undermine elections and spread damaging voter suppression tactics. We’ve advocated in coalition against anti-voting bills in dozens of states and work deeply at home here in Georgia against efforts to remove eligible voters from the voter registration rolls. And Fair Fight was critical in the years-long organizing effort that helped Georgia flip blue in 2020.

In 2024, we helped protect Georgia voters from being wrongfully removed from the voter rolls, sent millions of texts to mobilize voters, provide critical election information, and alert them when disinformation spreads. We also played a pivotal role in defeating anti-voter candidates in local and state-level elections, including one decided by just 48 votes. We’re in the trenches every day fighting efforts to make it harder to vote, and we’re not backing down.

Now, we’re launching Rights & Insights, a new Substack dedicated to helping you make sense of the chaotic attacks on democracy — and showing you how to fight back. Our goal is to make Rights & Insights your go-to source for the stories, insights, and updates on voting and elections that you won’t find in mainstream headlines.

We’ll break down what’s happening — and what it means — with sharp analysis, historical context, and legal or local insight. We’ll name the names, call out bad actors, and offer concrete actions you can take to make a difference.

Every Friday, we’ll highlight the worst anti-voter efforts across the country, with a spotlight on the South — the original frontline in the fight for voting rights, and still its fiercest. It’s a way to keep up with what the opponents of independent elections are up to.

Fresh perspectives from civil rights leaders, legal experts, and Southern change-makers — trusted voices who bring firsthand experience, context, and urgency to the fight.

We’re launching Rights & Insights at a critical moment. MAGA lawmakers in Congress and in many state legislatures are supporting versions of the so-called SAVE Act, a federal voter suppression bill that despite its misleading name would block tens of millions of eligible Americans from registering to vote.

Trump has issued an executive order trying to seize control of our elections. And far-right activists are working to entrench themselves into election administration positions, pass voter suppression laws, and advance mass voter challenges designed to remove voters from the rolls. 

It’s all part of the far-right effort to undermine the 2026 midterm elections in states like Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. They want to remove eligible voters from the rolls and make it harder to vote, all to insulate themselves from the accountability of our votes.

Fair Fight is in court right now fighting far-right voter challenges. We’re investing in local races that shape election boards. We’re responding in real time when election rules or voting locations are changed. And we’re building a movement in the South that refuses to give up the power of our freedom to vote, organize, and create a fair system where all of our freedoms are protected. This Substack is a continuation of that work. It’s a place for clarity, context, and resistance. A place to cut through the noise and stay sharp for what’s ahead.

As my friend (and fellow Fair Fight co-founder) Stacey Abrams says: “Voting is not magic. Voting is medicine.” The remedy to the anti-freedom sickness trying to overtake our government and country is our vote. 

Our democracy is being tested — a clear-eyed defense and vision for the future are required to respond effectively. From the courtroom to your local elections office, and of course at the ballot box, our republic can only be kept if we show up and demand it.
