Hello friend,
We had a productive meeting yesterday about next steps on reorienting Pittsfield's budget priorities to serve the public, especially Black and Brown communities. Thank you to those who joined us, especially Councilor Helen Moon and members of the NAACP-Berkshire Branch!
We have significantly shifted the conversation around the budget, but our work is not done: there is another hearing on the School Department budget on Monday (6/22) at 5p, and it is imperative that we call in to remind the Councilors who they represent and what we want. You can participate by clicking on this link and entering the access code (736-025-325). You can also dial in via +1 (646) 749-3112. In the meantime, you can also write to our representatives to tell them: FUND SCHOOLS, NOT COPS! You can find more information about Pittsfield's budget proposal here.
Today is Juneteenth, a momentous day in American history, and we wish all Black people a joyous celebration of independence and freedom. And we urge all white people to double down on their efforts to fight anti-Black racism. To that end, please join us at one of the many events this weekend:
Friday (6/19) at 5.30p - Williamstown - Juneteenth Celebration: An Event in Support of BLM
Saturday (6/20) at 2p - North Adams - BLM Gathering
Saturday (6/20) at 2p - Pittsfield - Defend Black Lives
We hope to see you at the hearing on Monday, and at one of these events this weekend!
In solidarity,
Sidney Rothstein
