[link removed] [[link removed]] Dear Friend,
Our rural communities are facing a healthcare crisis. This isn’t hypothetical—it’s happening right now. During my visit with Kevin Stansbury, CEO of Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo, I saw firsthand the critical role Medicaid funding plays in keeping hospitals like his open. Without it, vital care that hardworking families depend on are at risk.
[link removed]? [[link removed]?]For communities like Hugo, these hospitals are lifelines, providing chemotherapy, primary care, and emergency services. Yet Congress is poised to pass devastating cuts to Medicaid which would harm each and every one of these hospitals. Kevin recently explained in an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe [[link removed]?] that, for Lincoln Community Hospital, Medicaid represents 25% of the funding they have to keep their doors open. Losing that funding could mean families have no local health options — and instead are forced to travel hours just to see a doctor and get the care they need.
This is personal for me. As your attorney general, I fought to protect Medicaid, all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. As your next governor, I will continue that fight. Every Coloradan deserves access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live.
I am committed to tackling tough issues, and to fighting back when Congress threatens to defund life saving Medicaid. And I will continue to look for ways to make healthcare more accessible as well as affordable. In fact, I worked with Kevin and others on a law to do just that.
As the U.S. Senate considers a dangerous budget proposal, we face the prospect of national Medicaid cuts that will cut people off from health care. If these cuts happen, rural hospitals and health centers could vanish, leaving communities without access to essential care.
I refuse to stand by as this happens.
I’ll fight to ensure the resources our rural hospitals need are protected. And I will continue to stand up to federal Medicaid cuts that would leave our rural communities behind—or worse, force them to close their doors.
Kevin’s hospital in Hugo is just one example. This story is playing out across our state in communities where families work hard, play by the rules, and deserve better. No Coloradan should lose access to care because of where they live.
I’ve always shown up and fought for our communities—not just the metro areas, but rural ones too. Please consider donating to my campaign to join me in this fight for healthcare for all Coloradans.
