More volunteer opportunities to tell Mayor Lurie to keep Market Street car-free! |
On April 10th, Mayor Lurie announced that Waymo will begin using Market Street beginning this summer. This announcement made a week after the SFMTA Board of Directors cut five Muni lines on Market Street. The Mayor's announcement has opened a pandoras box to private companies like Uber and Lyft who want access to Market Street and are planning to deploy their vehicles using the same loophole that allows Waymo on the corridor, upending the 20+ years of advocacy that made Market Street car-free and transit-first.
SFTR is part of the Keep Market Street Moving alliance, which is currently asking people to sign onto our petition to keep Market Street car-free and we need your help handing out flyers to people who take Muni, taxi, bike and walk on the corridor. Join SFTR for an upcoming flyering event: Details: Date: Thursday, June 26 Time: 8:00 am Location: TBD |

Join Bay Area Forward in an all-day advocacy opportunity in Sacramento |
The legislative budget agreement announced last week underscores funding from a 2026 regional ballot measure to support transit operations must fully account for budgetary shortfalls. We know the most effective way to do that is through a gross receipts tax which delivers stable, sustainable funding for Bay Area transit operations. And it’s more popular with voters than a sales tax that continues to see soft support in the region.
June 24th is when Bay Area Forward makes the hard ask directly to our state legislators: will they increase costs on working class and low-income families through a sales tax – or – fully fund public transit in the Bay by having major businesses pay their fair share? Bay Area Forward will also be able to start sharing what a gross receipts tax will look like to generate $800 million. Details: Date: Tuesday, June 24 Time: Arrive in Sacramento at 9:00 am Location: Meet at "Area 33" - 14th and L Streets Sacramento - East Side of Capitol

Continue to urge Governor Newsom:
Take this deal that will save transit! |
Earlier this month, we asked riders to call their legislators’ offices to demand that they reject Newsom's cuts to transit services. Our demands were successful! The legislative leadership put out response to Governor Newsom's proposed budget and they: -
Rejected Newsom's proposed $1.1B in transit service funding cuts
- Proposed providing $750M in loans to Bay Area transit agencies to prevent immediate service cuts.
Now, this proposal goes back to Governor Newsom, and we need him to take this deal. Use the script linked below as a guide to call Governor Newsom and demand that he accepts the Legislature’s budget deal. Be sure to submit this form when you're done so we can keep track of how many people are speaking up!

It's the last week to submit your entry: Excelsior Needs Assessment |
SFTR is working in collaboration with the Bay Area Air District to identify transit needs directly from community members and groups within San Francisco neighborhoods. Once needs have been identified, we aim to amplify community voices to improve public transportation and help shift transportation priorities.
Our current work focuses on the Excelsior District of San Francisco. If you or someone you know is an Excelsior resident, please encourage them to take the survey below. All completed submissions are entered into a raffle to win a $250 - $500 Visa gift card OR exclusive SFTR merch!
Updates on the survey: - The survey will close on June 30, 2025, and winners will be contacted on July 7, 2025.
-
We will present the results through a Town Hall, this upcoming July. Stay tuned for details.
- The survey results will also be available on our website (sftransitriders.org/excelsior/)

Volunteer for this year's Transit Month! |
Transit Month takes place every September to celebrate public transit and how it connects us to all the amazing places, people, and communities across the Bay Area.
Originally beginning as San Francisco Transit Week in 2016, Transit Month became a region-wide celebration in 2021. In 2024, thanks to the more than 50 organizations who hosted 69 events, thousands of people in every part of the Bay Area were able to join in on the fun with socials, rallies, ride-alongs, scavenger hunts, group hikes, informational sessions, and much more. And we are always looking to get more folks involved!
Fill out the form linked below and we'll get in touch to figure out how you can get plugged into the month-long celebration.
