Today, on Juneteenth—the oldest commemoration of the end of slavery and the celebration of the contributions of Black Americans in building this nation—we are pleased to announce that we have joined other non-profits in the Love Has No Labels Campaign. This is the Ad Council’s five-year-old, flagship, anti-discrimination campaign. Their latest effort is the Fight for Freedom, which fosters deeper understanding about racism and structural inequality and what can be done to help end it. We invite you to view, share and activate the resources. The Council joined this effort because this moment calls on us to do more to connect our pursuit of a fair and just immigration system to the pursuit of a fair and just society and freedom for all. Earlier this year, we launched the Center for Inclusion and Belonging to house our work to change the way people perceive and treat each other so that one day, humane and effective laws and policies will flourish. The Center recognizes that the challenges we face advancing immigrant justice are bigger than any single policy issue. Today’s movement for Black lives is intertwined with the immigrant justice movement. This shows up in various ways, including that many asylum seekers are Black individuals and families from African and African diaspora countries. Part of working towards a fair and just immigration system means envisioning an end to anti-Black violence. It also means championing anti-racism and undertaking the work within ourselves, our organizations, and our communities. Together, we have the power to change the systems and structures that perpetuate racism and discrimination. This year, our offices are closed in honor of Juneteenth, and we look forward to this being a standing holiday for years to come. Sincerely,
