Van Orden loves to talk about being raised by a single mom on food stamps. He says that experience shaped his values. But in Congress, his record tells a different story.
He just voted for a Republican budget plan that would slash nearly $300 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the program formerly known as food stamps. This budget would rip food assistance away from over 114,000 veterans, seniors, and other people in Wisconsin who, just like Derrick Van Orden's own mom, couldn't make ends meet without it.
This is the worst kind of politics: Say one thing back home, vote the other way in D.C., and leave the people who elected you behind. Van Orden is siding with billionaires over Wisconsinites — and we're calling it out.
