Action Alert: SPUC launches Tell the Truth campaign

Join the Tell the Truth campaign

Dear SPUC supporter,

Since lockdown began:

  • 15,138 women have accessed remote DIY abortions
  • Police are investigating the case of a baby who died when his or her mother took abortion pills, posted to her by BPAS, at 28 weeks pregnant
  • BPAS have admitted that they are investigating more cases of the pills being taken past the advised medical limit

It’s time for the Government to tell the truth about what’s really happening to women carrying out DIY abortions at home.

Temporary?

The Government has repeatedly stated that the approvals to allow remote abortions are temporary measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they may go on a lot longer than some of the other measures that are being lifted now.

We know that abortion providers and lobbyists are determined to hold on to this power to send women abortion pills in the post without them even seeing a doctor – because it furthers their agenda of normalising abortion.

Take action

Please take action in our new campaign. It is called the Tell the Truth campaign because we are calling on the Government to tell the truth about the damage this ill-thought through and rushed policy will do – and is already doing – to women.

We have produced an expert briefing spelling out all the dangers of remote abortion, and providing key questions which we’d like you to ask your MP to put to the Secretary of State for Health. Please use our website feature, which allows you to input your postcode and send an email straight to your MP.

The Government must be made to Tell the Truth.

Please also ask your MP to contact the Department of Health and Social Care to implement these three key actions:

1. The Secretary of State for Health must report fully to Parliament and the public on DIY remote abortions.

2. The Department of Health and Social Care must call to task abortion providers and medical practitioners to include a woman’s NHS number on the abortion form so that the health outcomes of DIY abortions can be properly assessed.

3. The Care Quality Commission must be mandated to inspect independent abortion providers providing ‘pills through the post’ and ‘telemedicine’ abortions at the earliest opportunity.

Please visit the campaign page, read our briefing, and send an email to your MP.

With all good wishes,

Antonia Tully
