John, today is a
historic day.

Juneteenth marks the longest standing holiday to honor the end of slavery
in the United States. In the wake of nationwide peaceful protests and
demonstrations, the significance of this day echos louder than ever
before. 

While many have historically maintained the end of slavery to be on
January 1st, 1863, when President Lincoln issued the Emancipation
Proclamation, June 19th, 1865 marked the beginning of a national call for
equality for Black families and communities across the country.

nationally-observed holiday? Your voice and advocacy are integral parts of
creating the inclusive future we’re fighting for.

Over the past month, we have seen the powerful cry for justice and
transformation of our legal and justice systems. The Black community and
its allies have risked our lives to demand concrete change to the systemic
injustices that plague this nation. 

While President Trump may tout the fame and notoriety of Juneteenth as his
own doing, Juneteenth, also referred to as the Black Independence Day,
truly serves as a celebration of Black culture, history and enlightenment.
In making June 19th a national holiday, we can recognize and amplify an
otherwise silenced history.

overlooked, which is why we are calling on Congress to make Juneteenth a
federal holiday. Sign our petition to amplify the message and enact
concrete change in the foundations of our future.
