John,
Yesterday, Donald Trump confirmed that the United States carried out strikes on three Iranian military facilities.
The Trump administration illegally took military action without congressional authorization, risking dragging us into another never-ending war.
These actions will put American troops in danger and threaten to destabilize not just the region, but the world.
As the daughter of two Iranian immigrants, I’m no stranger to the horrors of the current regime in Iran. The people of Iran deserve freedom from the regime, and the people of Israel deserve security, but entering another endless war is not the answer.
That’s why I cosponsored the bipartisan War Powers Resolution to reassert that any U.S. military action against Iran must be authorized by Congress — as mandated by our Constitution. I am calling for an immediate emergency session of Congress to vote on this resolution.
We must continue working to hold this administration accountable for these dangerous actions.
More soon,
Yassamin
