Every day, we hear from Common Dreams readers sharing your thoughts, feedback, and, very often, your thanks.

Many of these notes are like this one from Margaret K., who recently gave $26: "As always wish it could be millions more."

Then there are notes like this one from Lauren S., whose $5 donation means so much to us: “I wish I could send more, but I only get a small amount from SSI that barely covers my rent.”

But some notes stop us cold, like this one we got the other day from Hedi S., who donated $16.20 and shared this harrowing story:

At the age of 4, I had to flee, with my parents, from Austria, where I was born and which had become a fascist state. My father had been arrested and spent a few weeks in Dachau Concentration Camp. He was lucky to have been freed. I was taught all of my life to stand up to fascism; that’s what I, unfortunately, am doing now, in the U.S. Thank you for being who you are.

If there’s ever a day in the weeks and months to come that we're feeling down or discouraged, we can pull up this note from Hedi and know why we must never, ever stop fighting against the authoritarians and demagogues who seek to destroy all we know and love.
