John – Yesterday, President Trump unilaterally and unconstitutionally put American lives in danger when he launched airstrikes on Iran.
I don't care if there's a D or an R after your name — no president gets to send our troops into war without coming to Congress first. That's the law. That's the Constitution. And that's what's right.
For too long, presidents from both parties have treated war powers like a personal privilege. They've gotten used to skipping over Congress and keeping the American people in the dark.
I've had enough of that.
I won't defend the Iranian regime or understate the danger of a nuclear Iran. This is about giving the American people a say in whether we will be dragged into another endless, expensive war in the Middle East.
These aren't toy soldiers. They're not props in a press conference. They're our children. Our neighbors. Our families. If we're asking someone to risk their life — or their kid's life — we better have a damn good reason. And we better be honest about it.
That's why I'm co-sponsoring the War Powers Resolution — to prevent the US from declaring war, without explicit Congressional authority.
Congress has the power to declare war. Not the White House. Not the Pentagon. Not the donors, and not the defense contractors.
If we don't fight to take that power back, we'll keep repeating the same mistakes — endless wars, no plan, no accountability, and no answers for the families left behind.
I didn't run for Congress to rubber-stamp decisions from the top. I ran to represent working people. And working people are the ones who pay the price when leaders go to war without thinking twice.
I'm proud to join together with Representatives from both parties to say "No War On Our Watch."
