Juneteenth has always been a big deal in my family and it is thrilling to finally see the entire country celebrate a day that has always had so much meaning and history for us. It's also coming in the midst of big changes, changes that we have waited and worked for since my grandmother was walking to her segregated school in North Carolina.

It's from her that I learned how important voting is for the future of black lives and it is because of where we are today that Andrea Hailey, ED of vote.org and my podcast co-host, and I wanted to put out a pre-launch episode of our podcast discussing exactly how voting is a key tool in the fight to eliminate systemic racism from the criminal justice system.

I hope you'll join us today as we discuss how the system really works, why it needs to change, and how to do it. And please, take Juneteenth with you every day from now until November.
