It’s that time of year, John: The end of the Supreme Court season is nearly here.

I’m sure that’s one of the last things you were expecting me to say — but since there are so many important cases on the docket this year, I wanted to give you a quick breakdown of some that are expected to be decided in the near future.

First up on the list — gerrymandering. For too long, politicians have drawn congressional maps that are designed to lock them in power instead of providing voters with fair representation. The Supreme Court will soon issue a ruling in the case of Louisiana v. Callais to decide whether newly drawn Congressional maps in Louisiana violate the Constitution.

Then, the Trump administration will pursue its cruel immigration policy by any means necessary — from using the National Guard to help arrest immigrants to trying to ban the constitutionally-guaranteed right of birthright citizenship. Sometime in the next few weeks, the Supreme Court will release a ruling in the case of Trump v. CASA Inc. to determine whether children born to undocumented immigrants and foreign visitors on U.S. soil can receive automatic citizenship.

As we’ve seen time and time again from the right-wing majority on the Supreme Court, we cannot trust them to defend our rights and freedoms. That’s why we need people in Congress who will be bold enough to fight for legislation that protects Americans against bad court rulings.
