TROUBLEMAKERS

Hello, troublemakers!

With masked ICE agents disappearing immigrants into unmarked vans and the military deployed to Los Angeles to face off against people defending their communities, we're being called to take action in less predictable scenarios. Are things heating up to a breaking point or a whirlwind moment? We don't know, but we do know that the better prepared we are, the safer we'll be.9/25-28 Save the Date! Deep Roots Forest Climate Convergence

The Trump Administration is rolling back years of progress on the climate crisis, starting an extraction blitz on public lands, and  opening up wilderness areas to logging. We'll have in-depth workshops on public mobilization, organizing and campaign strategy, strategic narrative intervention and shifting public perception, timber sale surveying and NEPA engagement, and direct action strategies. Sign up here to be on the list!

SOLARIZE EASTSIDE

A quick follow up on Solarize Eastside….

The last public workshop was fabulous! Our student team of Sustainability Ambassadors attended and the solarize experts were fantastic. Really helpful! Everybody’s questions got answered and homeowners are signing up.

Good news!

Here is the whole workshop in a handy 12-minute tutorial. We want everyone to know that July 4th is when the enrollment period closes for being able to take advantage of the Solarize group purchasing discount.

If you are thinking about solar at all, now is the time to sign up for a free home assessment, get more info, talk to the experts, and, if it’s a good fit for you, jump on it before July 4th.

Here’s Why…

Our city has set an ambitious goal of reducing GHG emissions 50% by 2030 and 96% by 2050 compared to a 2019 baseline. 2030 is 5 years from now. It will take all of us doing our part to get there.

Meanwhile, each and every hour, enough solar energy hits the Earth to power everything we do with clean electricity for a year.

As students who will live well into this century, we care about these kinds of catalytic steps. Will you go solar this Summer?

Sincerely, Student Sustainability Ambassadors, (The Future)

FROM 350 WA - ADVANCED CLEAN TRUCKS

Last year Washington joined 11 other states in going big to reduce diesel truck pollution—and now those efforts are under attack nationwide. State leadership on climate has never been more important. We need your help to support the Department of Ecology’s rulemaking on Advanced Clean Trucks. This month, state regulators are accepting public comment on this. The Field Team is calling on climate activists to contact the Washington Dept. of Ecology  by June 20 to submit a comment regarding this rulemaking.

The following is a sample comment that you copy directly or you can customize it and then submit it here.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment in support of the updates to the Clean Truck Rules. State leadership on clean transportation has never been more important. I commend the Department of Ecology for making sure we have more clean trucks on our roads in Washington by upholding the Advanced Clean Truck (ACT) program and the Heavy-Duty Omnibus Low NOx rule (HDO), a crucial step in cutting diesel pollution.

Washington can demonstrate its commitment to combating pollution and protecting vulnerable communities with forward-thinking policies like ACT and HDO. There is an ongoing national effort targeted at repealing this rule and others like it by the trucking industry and manufacturers. Delaying this rule by even two years would cause $67.6-83.7 million in health costs. We can’t let polluters take away our clean air future. Every delay in clean truck policies directly impacts public health, especially for low-income communities and communities of color, who are disproportionately exposed to harmful diesel emissions.

I strongly support Ecology’s proposed rules on ACT and HDO to continue standing up to polluting special interests who seek to delay or halt progress. The Advanced Clean Truck rule is critical for Washington to meet its climate targets in law and for improving our health.

Thank you.

Brazil is selling off parts of the Amazon Rainforest to fossil fuel companies.1

But oil and gas development doesn’t happen without a huge influx of money, and U.S.-based bank JPMorgan Chase is one of the TOP funders of fossil fuel exploration in the Amazon.2

We need to do everything we can to keep Big Oil out of the Amazon. Sign our petition telling JPMorgan Chase: Stop bankrolling fossil fuel exploration in the Amazon!

Sign On »

The Amazon plays a critical role in regulating our climate by absorbing greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. It’s also essential for wildlife, biodiversity, and countless communities. We can’t afford to lose the benefits of this vital ecosystem for the sake of corporate profits.

Drilling in the area that’s being sold off would increase Brazil’s oil production by an estimated 10 billion barrels.3 If we’re truly going to solve the climate crisis, we need to eliminate our reliance on dirty fossil fuels — not drill and burn even more.

Indigenous Peoples and Brazilian activists oppose more drilling in the Amazon — and supporters like you helped amplify their voices and strengthened the fight. But there’s so much more we can do, including calling on U.S.-based funders of fossil fuel development in the Amazon to drop out.

U.S. banks like JPMorgan Chase claim to fight biodiversity loss and exploitation of Indigenous Peoples, while bankrolling fossil fuel projects. It’s greenwashing, plain and simple.4 They should be using their resources to promote a just transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy — not further destroying our climate by turning the Amazon into a carbon bomb.

If you agree, make your voice heard: Add your name to our petition urging JPMorgan Chase to pull their investments in fossil fuel projects in the Amazon!

You can help stand up for our right to protest injustice by calling on governors to resist calls to deploy the National Guard. ‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Donald Trump has ordered the National Guard to Los Angeles to repress protesters standing up for their neighbors against aggressive and militarized ICE immigration raids. And, Trump did it over the objections of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, in an alarming breach of state sovereignty.1

As protests against ICE ramp up across the country, governors in other states will be called upon to deploy the National Guard — or risk Trump overriding them, too.

Silencing protest with military might is extreme government overreach. It’s unconstitutional. And it’s profoundly dangerous to allow this to go unchecked.

you can help stand up for our right to protest injustice. Will you send a message to your governor today and demand they resist calls to deploy the National Guard, and oppose any efforts by Trump to override their authority to deploy the National Guard himself?

Send a message »

The Trump White House is fabricating an excuse to abuse power and force a confrontation that starts — but does not end — with scapegoating immigrants.

It’s a deliberate tactic: Manufacture violence, then point the finger at the people they attacked, while distracting from the economic and social harms the government is causing elsewhere. We’ve seen fossil fuel proponents use this tactic to block climate progress, too.

As climate activists, we understand that immigration and the climate crisis are deeply connected.

Our country’s reckless emissions have caused a climate crisis that is a driver of migration. We cannot claim to stand for climate justice if we turn our backs on immigrants once the flood waters recede — and we cannot allow Trump’s cruel immigration policies to go unopposed.

The protests in LA and across the country show the strength of everyday people. The protests didn’t appear out of thin air; they are the result of months, years, and decades of community organizing. They’re the result of progressive movements standing shoulder to shoulder and declaring: There is no climate justice, there is no economic justice, there is no racial justice without migrant justice.

We must stand with everyone fighting for human rights and dignity. We must stand on the side of protesters exercising their right to free speech. We must call on our elected leaders to uphold our Constitutional right to protest.

Tell your governor to use every bit of their authority to oppose calls to deploy the National Guard to silence protesters and round up families today.

Ending coal, oil and gas hasn’t made it onto COP30’s agenda – yet. With your help we can change this.‌ ‌Tell the President of the world’s biggest climate talks: put ending fossil fuels on the agenda now.‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Send a letter now >>

Coal, oil and gas are the biggest drivers of climate change.1 But get this: we've just found out phasing them out isn’t yet on the agenda of this year’s critical climate talks — COP30 in Brazil.2

This decade is crucial for the health of our planet and ourselves. So COP30 can and must be a turning point with a clear plan to fairly end fossil fuels.

Brazil’s President Lula, and COP30 President, André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, have the power to make this happen. They want to be seen as climate leaders, which makes them open to public pressure. That’s where you come in, Phil.

Will you send them a letter demanding that fossil fuels and a fair switch to renewables be firmly on the agenda?

Last month, Brazil called for the world to come together and fight climate change like never before — and yet, completely skipped the part about fossil fuels.3 Worse, there are rumors that they’ll allow countries to voluntarily commit to phasing them out at COP30.4

None of this is good enough. Especially when rich countries like the United States, Norway, Canada and Australia are ramping up oil production. And Brazil and the UAE are using that as an excuse to drill themselves.

We must hold them accountable. Politicians work for us. That’s why your voice matters; them feeling public pressure is crucial.

COP30 leaders can lead the world in the transition to renewable energy and ending fossil fuels. They have the responsibility to deliver real action, not tiptoe around hard choices.

Let’s make sure they do — for the sake of us, our planet and the next generation.
