Supporting the Silent Wounds of War:
How Soldiers’ Angels Helps Service Members and Veterans Living with PTSD
June 27 is PTSD Awareness Day, a powerful reminder that not all wounds are visible. Many Service Members and Veterans carry the weight of war long after their time in uniform ends—and for some, that weight is called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
According to the VA, as many as 1 in 5 post-9/11 Veterans experience PTSD in a given year. It can affect nearly every part of daily life—sleep, relationships, work, and even the ability to ask for help. And far too often, it goes unspoken.
At Soldiers’ Angels, we may not be mental health professionals—but we are part of the healing journey. Our programs help restore connection, reduce isolation, and bring dignity, stability, and hope back into focus.
💡 How Our Programs Support Service Members and Veterans Living with PTSD
💌 Emotional Connection through Letters & Cards
Even a short note can break through the loneliness. Our Angel volunteers send heartfelt letters and handmade cards to Veterans and deployed Service Members—small gestures that provide powerful emotional support.

📦 Care Packages that Do More than Deliver Snacks
For those deployed, a care package is more than supplies—it’s a message that someone sees them. That connection to home can be deeply grounding for those living with PTSD.

🚗 Transportation Support for VA Appointments
PTSD can make it difficult to access consistent care. We help eliminate a major barrier by providing transportation support—so Veterans can get to appointments and receive the help they need.

🏠 Housing Packs for Homeless Veterans
Through our partnership with HUD-VASH, we provide newly housed Veterans with essentials for their new homes. A clean, dignified space can reduce stress and promote a renewed sense of safety and control.

🫶 Supporting Caregivers Who Carry the Weight Too
Behind many Veterans is a caregiver carrying just as much. Through our Women of Valor program, we support these quiet heroes with appreciation gifts, morale boosters, and heartfelt outreach. Supporting them strengthens the entire circle of healing.

🍱 Food Assistance that Builds Community
Our monthly food distributions do more than meet a basic need—they create a space of belonging. For those who isolate due to PTSD, these events offer community, compassion, and connection.

PTSD may be an invisible wound—but our support doesn’t have to be. Whether it's a warm meal, a handwritten card, or a safe place to call home, your support helps remind those who are struggling that they are not forgotten. This PTSD Awareness Month, let’s continue to shine a light on their journey—and walk beside them, one step at a time.

📱 Connection, Compassion & a Few "I Got It!" Moments
Each month at the DC VA Medical Center, Soldiers’ Angels volunteers visit Veterans in the Community Living Center—sharing meals, offering support, and spreading joy. Recently, they took it further by teaching Veterans how to use their iPads—sparking smiles, laughter, and moments of real connection. Because it’s not just about tech—it’s about dignity, independence, and being seen.
🎉 Pizza, Cupcakes & Bingo with Our Veterans
Soldiers’ Angels hosted our monthly luncheon and Bingo at the Veteran’s Wing of Crosspoint, Inc. in San Antonio—where community and connection mean everything.
Volunteers Sandy, Cathy, and SkillBridge intern Sgt. Matt served up pizza, cupcakes, and plenty of laughs. Matt even jumped in to call a few Bingo rounds—the energy was electric!
Thank you for being part of the Soldiers’ Angels family and helping us serve those who’ve served us all.
