June is Gun Violence Awareness Month — it’s long overdue that we pass an assault weapons ban in order to have meaningful gun violence prevention enacted into law.
Time and time again, Republicans have obstructed and prevented the passing of common-sense gun control reforms. I will never stop fighting to protect every American from the gun violence epidemic in this country.

As a top Democrat in Congress, I am proud to have worked alongside my colleagues to pass legislation that will protect our communities, like the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. The bipartisan bill expanded background checks to all sales of guns and closed loopholes.
The time to act is now to pass an assault weapons ban that will truly address this epidemic. Since Mike Johnson and other MAGA Republicans have taken control of the House, there has been no meaningful work on gun violence prevention.
