Broadmarsh road space redevelopment

broadmarsh road space changes after

On Tuesday 16 June we announced the exciting next phase of the Broadmarsh road switch, due to take place on the weekend of 8-9 August.

Changes are being made to make way for a brand new green pedestrian realm and entrance to the city from the south.

Road space changes will include:

  • Collin Street closed to all traffic
  • Canal Street, between Middle Hill and Greyfriar Gate, become a two-way restricted area for buses and wheelchair accessible taxis
  • The Greyfriar Gate junction modified to accommodate both north and southbound traffic, linking Maid Marian Way with Wilford Street, Canal Street and Castle Boulevard
  • Middle Hill become two-way from Canal Street to enable access into the Lace Market

Drivers normally following these routes will instead use the Southern Relief Route

The changes will support plans to improve the city’s walking and cycling connectivity post-COVID pandemic, providing more routes through the city centre and better connecting the city centre to the wider Nottingham area.

Find out more about what changes are being made and how they will benefit you here.

Changes around NCP car park

Castle Boulevard at its junction with Greyfriar Gate and onward to Collin Street is now closed to through traffic. To support the future road layout, a new entrance has been created to the NCP Arndale Car Park off Greyfriar Gate, opposite Ocean night club, accessible via Canal Street.

Highways England works on Clifton Bridge

Clifton lane closure

Highways England are continuing works to repair and strengthen the A52 Clifton Bridge.

Scaffolding now needs to be erected underneath the road as part of their repair programme. This means, from 6am on Sunday 21 June, the B679 Clifton Lane will be reduced to two lanes (normally four), with traffic running in one lane in each direction. These closures will remain in place until works are finished.

In order for these restrictions to be put in place, all four lanes will be closed overnight from 8pm-6am on Saturday 20 June and Sunday 21 June.

From Monday 22 June, motorists are being encouraged to leave extra times for their journeys as the new restrictions on Clifton Lane will be in place.
