Pittsburgh's largest medical system is urging patients under 19 receiving gender-affirming care to make appointments before the end of the month, when it plans to stop offering puberty blockers and hormone therapy in line with federal policy.

UPMC says the move is necessary to avoid the risk of "criminal prosecutions," but a legal analyst with the ACLU suggested the health giant may be more concerned about losing federal funding.
