This week, we celebrated Juneteenth across the Fighting Fifth. The community had a great time coming together to unite and recognize the strength and resilience of Black Americans in their fight for freedom and equality. We must continue our efforts to create a more just and inclusive future for everyone.

Slavery has always been wrong, and we must eliminate the loophole in the Constitution allowing slavery as punishment for a crime. I am committed to eliminating that exception once and for all, so that we can fulfill our nation's promise of justice for all.

Fighting the Republican Budget

Democrats continue to push back against Republicans' proposed cuts to Medicaid. This week, I held a press conference and hospital tour with House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark. I cannot emphasize enough the damage these Republican cuts will have on our hospitals and on families in the Fighting Fifth who rely on Medicaid to cover essential costs and expenses. And let me be clear: this isn't just about numbers; these are real families.

And these consequences don’t stop with families—they will lead to the closure of our hospitals. After the press conference, we toured Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital. Our hospitals, particularly in rural Georgia, will shut down, placing further strain on our already overstretched metro hospitals. This will result in an increase in patients, making it harder for our hospitals to provide care for everyone, and forcing people to travel for medical attention.

That is why we will continue to fight for America—for families, seniors, veterans, and the most marginalized.
