Dear Friend,

The past week has been incredibly difficult, not just for elected officials but for all Minnesotans. Following the tragic attacks in Brooklyn Park and Champlin, Minnesota, we, along with Senator Amy Klobuchar, led the entire Minnesota Congressional Delegation in a joint statement on Saturday condemning this heinous act of political violence.

Jacquie and I have known Melissa for more than 20 years. We joined the Minnesota House together in 2005. While we may have disagreed on policy from time to time, she was a great woman and a devoted public servant. While we mourn her and her husband, Mark, we continue to pray for their family, and Senator Hoffman and his wife Yvette’s full recovery. We are grateful to the brave men and women of law enforcement for their work to capture the assailant and look forward with the hope that justice will be served.

While in Minnesota this week, we had the opportunity to participate in a handful of important meetings with local leaders and law enforcement officials.

We met with the Centennial Lakes Police Chief, Jim Mork, and his officers to discuss public safety in Circle Pines, Centerville and Lexington. This area of our district presents unique challenges for law enforcement, but the work being done by Chief Mork and his officers is nothing short of extraordinary. Thank you, Chief Mork, for taking the time to meet with us and for all you do to protect our communities.

While in the area, we had the opportunity to sit down with Centerville Mayor Nancy Golden to discuss her work and ways we can work together to support the continued growth and success of this vibrant community. Thank you, Mayor Golden, for taking the time, and we look forward to our continued partnership.

Finally, while the weather was less than perfect, we had the chance to celebrate the completion of the Highway 25 Improvements Project. We were proud to fight for and secure nearly $6 million in federal funding for this project in 2022 and were glad to be there to celebrate its completion.

As Congress returns to Washington next week, rest assured that we will continue to seek out opportunities to honor and recognize former Minnesota Speaker of the House Melissa Hortman, Senator Hoffman, and their families in a nonpartisan way.

Sincerely,
