Bottom line: This is the largest cut to health care in American history.
If Republicans get their way, hospitals across our state will be forced to cut back services, lay off staff, or close their doors to patients.
We cannot afford to let Trump’s Big Ugly Bill become law.
Protect Medicaid From Republican Cuts
Congressional Republicans, including three from New Jersey, voted to take health care away from 16 million Americans. They turned their back on their constituents and ignored the devastating impact of Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill.
As the Ranking Member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which oversees Medicaid and Medicare, I fought against these devastating cuts and have been on the frontlines of the fight to protect health care for New Jerseyans.
As we continue the battle in Washington, it is your stories that fuel our work. They are a reminder that health care isn’t just a line item in a budget — it is a cornerstone of our obligation to care for one another.
This fight isn’t over. The bill still needs to pass the Senate, and we will do everything we can to stop it.

Iran’s Nuclear Threat
Israel’s efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities this week came directly after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) verified that Iran was in violation of its nonproliferation commitments and extremely close to building several nuclear bombs.
Israel has dealt a severe blow to Iran’s nuclear development capabilities— eliminating key military and nuclear leaders and degrading Iran’s ability to carry out future attacks. Iran poses a worldwide nuclear threat that has long targeted Israel and America.
Iran should never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. If they did, the safety of the American people would be at risk and global security would be jeopardized.
Trump’s Dangerous Offshore Drilling Plan
I, and my Democrat colleagues, sent a letter to Trump’s Interior Secretary warning that more offshore drilling would threaten coastal communities, marine life, and local economies – all while handing more giveaways to an industry already sitting on millions of acres of unused leases. We made clear that we OPPOSE any new or expanded offshore oil and gas leasing in our waters.
New or expanded oil and gas leasing poses serious risks to the health and livelihoods of coastal communities, jeopardizes our tourism, fishing, and recreational economies, and threatens the marine life that inhabits our coastlines. There is no need for increased leasing, especially when oil and gas companies continue to force the American people to bear the burden of their irresponsible decisions. The last thing we need is a devastating oil spill that would impose massive public health risks, environmental damage and billions of dollars in cleanup costs on the American people.
