John, I’m Lisa, the Director of Development here at Teachers Unify to End Gun Violence. I want to reach out to introduce myself, but also share a story that shows just how important our work is.

Earlier this month, I watched my daughter graduate high school as valedictorian, an incredibly proud and emotional moment for our family. It was one of those life-affirming moments so full of hope, pride, and promise.

But even as we celebrated her achievements, the joy was shadowed by tragedy, quickly tempered by heartbreak.

That same evening, gunfire rang out just outside the Burnsville High School graduation ceremony in Minnesota, where my nephew once walked the halls. Thankfully, no one was physically hurt – but the fear, the disruption, and the trauma were real.

And it wasn’t the only incident. Just days before, two people were shot outside the Wayzata High School graduation ceremony at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, the same place my daughter just graduated from.

Graduation should be a time of celebration. But instead, across the country, even these sacred milestones are being disrupted by the epidemic of gun violence.

It is unacceptable, and it is why Teachers Unify exists.

Right now, Teachers Unify is:
* Equipping school staff with tools to respond to gun violence in the classroom and the community.
* Training educators to organize and advocate for policy change at the local, state, and national levels.
* Uplifting the voices of those most directly impacted—because no one understands this crisis like those who teach, protect, and guide our children every day.

I’m so excited to be joining the Teachers Unify team because I know that the work we’re doing is making progress, but there is still so much more we can do together.

I’m so grateful for our team of grassroots supporters that make our work possible. If you are able, can you please donate $25 to help boost our work?

You’ll be hearing from me more as we continue our work towards making our schools and communities a safer place, John, Looking forward to speaking with you again soon!

-Lisa
