Dear Friends,

In the name of national security, the Trump Administration is working to vastly expand the immigration detention system, including using the U.S. base at Guantánamo Bay and outsourcing detention to other countries including the Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT) in El Salvador. Both the military prison at Guantánamo Bay and CECOT are defined by torture and other cruel, inhuman, degrading treatment, along with the lack of due process and indefinite detention without trial. The inability of advocates and even the U.S. government to provide transparency and oversight is compounded by this extraterritorial detention of migrants by the United States.

January 2026 will mark twenty years that NRCAT has worked to bring together people of faith to oppose the use of torture in U.S. policy, practice and culture. To that end, today NRCAT is working to oppose the expansion of immigration detention, oppose expanding the Migrant Operations Center at Guantánamo, oppose using the military prison at Guantánamo to hold migrants, and oppose outsourcing detention at CECOT and other international prisons.

Write to Congress today to urge them to stand up for human rights!

To learn more about what is being done to challenge the immoral and dangerous strategies of this Administration, please join me in tuning into a webinar hosted by our partners at Amnesty International on June 25th at 12pm ET - Guantánamo to CECOT: Abuses by the US Government in the Name of "National Security". The webinar will include lawyers of men detained in both Guantánamo and CECOT, along with Finnoula Ní Aoláin, a former UN Special Rapporteur. RSVP here: https://bit.ly/gitmotocecot

For some of the people the Trump Administration has sent to Guantánamo and CECOT, they have cited the Alien Enemies Act as justification. For background, check out What are “Wartime Authorities” and When Can the President Use Them? Expert Q&A, published by Just Security.

Your advocacy, prayers, and on-going support have propelled NRCAT to stand up for human rights and human dignity for two decades. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Rev. T.C. Morrow
Director of Finance & Operations

P.S. This June, generous donors have offered a challenge match – your contribution to NRCAT today will help us meet our $30,000 Challenge Match goal.
