Democrat,

This weekend, our country witnessed a horrific tragedy as public servants in Minnesota became targets of political assassinations. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of slain Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman, and her husband, Mark, and we wish for the swift recovery of Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who were also ambushed by the alleged killer.

Serving our country in elected office should not come under threat of violence. These attacks underscore the dangers of rising extremism in America. We must come together as a nation to forge a better way forward and put in place protections to keep leaders safe.

As Minnesota stood strong in the face of these attacks, Americans across all fifty states stood for democracy at No Kings rallies, protesting the overreach of the Trump administration. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the protest in Montclair.

This is an especially important week to stay engaged, with the Senate advancing deep cuts to Medicaid that will jeopardize the health of countless families in New Jersey and across the nation and the Supreme Court taking away rights from transgender kids. With so much at stake, we must make sure to keep the momentum from this weekend going forward to resist this administration's harmful agenda.

— Chairman LeRoy J. Jones, Jr.

Trump tried to cancel several National Institutes of Health (NIH) research grants with an executive order but this week a Massachusetts judge ruled this was illegal, citing the discriminatory nature of these actions. The canceled grants, which focused on LGBTQ+ issues, gender identity, and DEI, were deemed an infringement on federal law. The judge not only found that these cuts were discriminatory but also ordered the reinstatement of the grants.

This is a big win for both scientific progress and the fight for equal rights. This ruling serves as a reminder that we must continue pushing back against policies that aim to suppress progress and discriminate against marginalized communities.

Claim:

The Trump corporation debuted a new cellular service and phone made “by Americans for Americans.”

The Truth:

The grift of the Trump family continues. While Trump imposes high tariffs on foreign countries, impacting consumer prices in our state, he also rolled out a new T1 Phone by Trump Mobile, promising to “boost” American manufacturing. This is not just a marketing ploy to profit off American workers while undermining other competition, it is another blatant attempt by the President to use his position to benefit his own pocket. Let’s call it what it is – corruption.

Impact on New Jersey:

While Trump continues to enrich himself with impunity, he's pushing a budget that slashes healthcare for New Jersey families. The profit from these new phones will flow directly to the Trump family’s pocket. We need real leadership that prioritizes the well-being of our communities, not self-serving schemes.

New Jersey Fights Back at No King Rallies

Even in the rain, New Jerseyans showed up to stand up against the harmful Republican agenda. Our Women’s Caucus Chair, A’Dorian Murray-Thomas led the charge. Our Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mikie Sherrill stood shoulder to shoulder with other primary candidates and the huge crowd, ready to fight for New Jersey’s future. The rally was unmatched and not even Trump’s $45 million parade–that WE, the taxpayers, paid for–could ever dream of comparing in scope and energy.
