When I saw a recent poll that had us in the lead against Mitch McConnell, I thought back to those early days last year when I first decided to take him on.

A few of my friends thought I’d gone bananas. They’d remind me that no one’s ever come close to beating him—that everybody who’s tried has been beaten up and lied about. And did I really want my kids to hear people say nasty stuff about their mom?!

Of course I didn’t. But this wasn’t about me or my pride.

Mitch McConnell has systematically broken so much of our democracy. He’s spent decades putting himself and his party first, and he’s made an art form out of obstruction, corruption and plain-old B.S. He’s such a big part of the mess we’re in today, and we can’t truly start to fix it until he’s gone.

I’m running because, on six separate occasions, I took an oath to defend our Constitution—no matter what. And I plan to take that oath again come January.
