Dear neighbor,

In April, I sent a survey asking Southern California constituents, “Should Congress cut Social Security and Medi-Cal (Medicaid) to enact tax cuts?” The results were overwhelming.

93% of you said no. I agree.

The Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill will kick 16 million Americans off their health care to give tax breaks to billionaires. This will have a devastating effect on hospitals all across this country because regardless of health coverage, people will still get sick. As a result, more people will go to the emergency room and be stuck with expensive medical bills that they can’t afford. Hospitals will then be left with unpaid bills and could be forced to close or reduce services. Ultimately, this impacts everyone.

As Congress comes back to debate these cuts, I will strongly oppose them. I stand with 93% of you and will continue fighting for the programs that everyday Americans rely on.

WORLD REFUGEE DAY: Today, I announced my resolution to honor June 20 as World Refugee Day. Democrats and Republicans used to agree that we have a moral responsibility to help those seeking refuge from violence, persecution, human rights abuses, and other dangers. Trump’s actions have run counter to this. He's banned refugees, defunded foreign aid programs, and abdicated our duty to help those who need it most. I’m pleased to lead my colleagues in reiterating the call to help refugees fleeing unimaginable circumstances.
