John,
This week, the Supreme Court just gave Tennessee — and any state with an anti-trans agenda — the green light to ban gender-affirming care for youth.
The decision in United States v. Skrmetti is cruel and heartbreaking.
It strips away healthcare that helps trans youth live healthy, joyful lives. It blocks families from making essential, life-saving medical decisions for their kids. And it ignores decades of research, medical expertise, and the truth that we know in our hearts: trans kids deserve care and dignity.
This ruling isn’t about science or safety. It’s about ideology and discrimination — plain and simple. Tennessee’s ban prohibits certain medications for trans youth, while allowing those same medications to be prescribed for cisgender youth.
But here’s what's also important to know: this decision doesn’t block care in states where it’s still legal — and it doesn’t stop us from building blue majorities that will protect it.
Just look at Minnesota. After flipping the state Senate and securing a blue trifecta in 2022, Democratic lawmakers swiftly passed legislation to make the state a safe haven for trans people seeking gender-affirming care.
Right now, the best way to protect trans youth is to elect Democrats to state legislatures who will write and defend laws that affirm their humanity. That’s the collective fight we’re in at Sister District, John.
