Hi John,
This public health crisis has laid bare the problems with the American health care system. Our system has failed communities and frontline medical workers across the country, and, worst of all, it has failed the most vulnerable among us.
We need leaders who are willing to work for solutions to strengthen our public health systems, but Trump and his good friend Lee Zeldin -- who Trump wholeheartedly endorsed in a tweet this week -- have shown that they are not only uninterested in strengthening our health care systems but are also actively trying to weaken it.
The Republican approach to health care, like so many issues, ignores the facts. Republicans want to cut budgets to the bone and have attempted to repeal the Affordable Care Act without proposing ANY alternative. Zeldin has repeatedly supported these wreckless efforts to repeal the ACA and take coverage away from 23 million hard-working Americans -- including 71,000 Americans here in the 1st Congressional District.
In fact, when questioned about the active GOP lawsuit to rule the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional, Trump told reporters that he wants to “terminate health care under Obamacare.”
This is a critical fight, and it’s one I take very seriously. That’s why I’m running for Congress against Zeldin in NY-01, and when we flip this seat in November, as a scientist, I will be a leader in ensuring that every American has access to high-quality, affordable health care.
I’ve spoken with medical professionals working in hospitals here on Long Island and heard the concerns of constituents, neighbors, and friends regarding access to care and treatment -- it is clear to me that we must demand better immediately.
Thank you for standing with me.
With gratitude,
Nancy
