These past few weeks have been packed with powerful moments for the European Greens. From party leaders tackling the most pressing crises of our time at the 4th Green Leadership Council in Brussels, to inspiring mayors elected in in Croatia and Latvia and exciting developments in Finland and in the Netherlands, the Green movement is making a pattern of local wins and renewal.
We continue to raise our voice for peace and justice, from Gaza to Ukraine and to every corner where democracy and human rights are under threat. Dive in for the latest updates, victories, and messages from the heart of our movement.
Green Leadership Council
On 13 June leaders of the EGP’s member parties gathered in Brussels for the 4th Green Leadership Council (GLC). Leaders exchanged on major questions of our time, from tackling the climate crisis to the housing & cost of living crisis. They discussed support for Ukraine, the Israeli government's aggression towards Palestinians and now conflict between Israel and Iran.
“The Greens continue to push back against efforts — especially by the far right and their enablers in the European People's Party — to dismantle the Green Deal. European Commission data showed that climate action works and leads to lower emissions – stopping now would be a massive mistake.”Our co-chair Vula Tsetsi shared with Green Party Leaders.
“The pressure from the far right, the climate emergency, rising inequality, the cost of living and threats to democracy all demand a bold and coherent green response, as well as a European Union that is more united than ever.” Our co-chair, Ciaran, said during the GLC.
Green Leaders have also released a joint statement ‘Green light for long-term investment in a sustainable Europe’. In times of growing geopolitical insecurity, inequality, intensified economic global competition and an escalating climate crisis, it is high time for long-term investment in Europe. The current European fiscal rules do not set the appropriate incentives to respond to these challenges. The stability of our common currency and the solidarity between member states requires a credible fiscal framework to ensure all member states mainstream sustainability in their finances and their ability to face the urgent expenditures needed in the challenging times today.

Big green win in Riga

Progresivie will head the Finance and Administration Committee and the Traffic and Transport Committee.
Fair, transparent & people-first governance starts at the local level.

Budapest Pride, here we come!
Only 8 days left until Budapest Pride! We say it loud and clear: we will defend the right to march with Pride and the right to protest in Budapest on 28 June. Our co chairs and Committee members, MEPs, MPs and other greens will join the march, including Ministers Yolanda Diaz and Ernest Urtasun as well as Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema. Almost 100 Green representatives will join Budapest Pride.
👏 We will march in all of our brightest colours, with our Green Mayor Gergely Karascony who will hold an official event with Pride organisers that will celebrate freedom and love.
The Mayor will organise a municipal event which doesn’t require permits from the national authorities, thereby circumventing Orban’s ban. The city will hold the official event together with Pride organisers, to celebrate freedom and love.
LGBTQI+ rights are human rights The right to protest is a human right
📢 Orbán wants to ban pride, let’s show him that you can’t silence a rainbow.
Benni Scuderi’s message from Gaza
We have the power to act. There is no time to waste.
Benni Scuderi, a member of the EU Parliament from Greens/EFA went to the Egyptian side of the Rafah border. Click on the image above to hear her message.
As Greens, we demand that the EU suspends the EU-Israel Association Agreement. We call for an immediate halt to all arms exports and military cooperation that fuel the destruction in Gaza and allow the expansion of illegal settlements.
We continue to demand an immediate ceasefire, sanctions, and full accountability.
We continue to call for the release of all hostages by Hamas and those illegally detained by Israel.
Only yes means yes
🇫🇷 France is now the latest country to alter the legal definition of rape to make it consent-based. It just passed in the Senate and now needs to be adopted! This means that all parties need to give consent before proceeding to any ‘fun’.
It is an incredible accomplishment from the French Greens and in particular from Marie-Charlotte Garin and Mélanie Vogel but also all the activists and feminist associations.
It is essential that the outdated legislations on rape be modernized so that survivors don’t have to fight to get justice from this most heinous form of violence.
There is no grey area in sexual assault.
💜 Only yes means yes.

Their co-spokespeople for the next year are Anja Presnukhina and Andrej Zlatović.
We wish them an amazing year ahead, fighting for social justice & the climate
Freedom as we used to conceive of it is under pressure from all sides. Traditional notions of liberty face unprecedented challenges from authoritarian forces, technological manipulation, and systemic injustices exposed by recent crises. The new edition of the Green European Journal, Unbound: The Battle Over Freedom, explores how the Green movement, despite being rooted in a radical critique of all forms of authority and domination, is currently losing ground in this struggle. To win this battle over meaning and ownership, progressives must mobilise around freedom's enduring emotional appeal.
The people of Gaza are living in inhuman conditions. While children are starving, the Israeli government and military are blocking food and humanitarian aid.
It is Europe's moral duty to act - and we must start by suspending our association agreement with Israel. This Monday, EU Foreign Ministers will discuss the agreement.
At the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice, our Greens member Mätta Ivarsson, County Councillor from Skåne, led the call for urgent ocean protection on behalf of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). As CoR rapporteur on the European Ocean Pact, her unanimously adopted opinion reflects the growing alarm of local and regional authorities over the future livability of their coastal communities. Her core message: without empowered local leadership and inclusive ocean governance, climate and biodiversity goals will remain out of reach. In Nice, Mätta met with EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Cóstas Kadis, urging immediate action to protect marine life, restore ecosystems, and strengthen coastal resilience and to ensure strong EU support for local action.
