Refugees are an integral part of our communities. They are our neighbors and friends, working alongside us, contributing to the economy and vibrancy of our cities and towns.
But for many of them, their livelihoods have recently been upended.
The Refugee Admissions Program, which strengthens our security, economy and leadership in the world, remains frozen, attempting to compel the administration to resettle refugees who were vetted and approved before the halt.
While our immigration system is in desperate need of repair, these actions against the most vulnerable are not the solution.
Refugee resettlement demonstrates the principle that through well-vetted, orderly pathways, the United States is a welcoming nation that offers protection and refuge to people who face persecution.
Our national security, not to mention our values, demands that we protect those fleeing persecution, violence, and war, providing them with safety and security in the U.S.
