My favorite stage of the writing process has always been editing, when I get to sculpt words into their strongest form. Occasionally, though, I’ll come across a dreaded note in a draft where I simply jotted to myself: Make this better later.
But later often comes sooner than we expect. And for many nonprofits, the future is now, as groups and communities struggle to respond to the Trump administration and their short-sighted but far-reaching executive orders.
This week at the Climate Justice desk, we are looking at consequences. First, LGBTQ+ groups face budget deficits of up to six figures due to corporations pulling their support of Pride, but nonprofits are making up the difference in new and surprising ways. Next, a firsthand account of the promise and skills lost when a National Science Foundation grant is suddenly cut. Then, last month Microsoft quietly announced it was ending a long-running program that supplied nearly half a million nonprofits with free access to its software products. Finally, in honor of Juneteenth, the NPQ team is sharing a collection of stories we’ve published on freedom.
