Hi there, it’s Dave.
I wanted to talk today about a vote my opponent, Republican Gabe Evans, recently took in Congress.
Included in Trump’s budget bill are draconian cuts to Medicaid, which provides health coverage to low-income families, including children, veterans, and seniors. Medicaid is a critical program for so many Coloradans—and Gabe Evans voted to slash it by billions of dollars.
I know exactly what those cuts will feel like because, like so many Coloradans, my family has relied on Medicaid.
My sister Dorothy has lived with severe cognitive, mental health, and behavioral disabilities her entire life. I’ve helped support her through this as much as possible, but her needs are substantial and costly. Without Medicaid, my family’s ability to deliver life-sustaining care for her would be incredibly challenging, if not impossible.
Twenty-five years ago, Colorado’s Medicaid program was severely underfunded, and for 18 months, my sister Dorothy went through 20 residential placements. She was effectively homeless for over a year of her life. Seeing that struggle is part of what inspired me to run for office in the first place.
Now, Gabe Evans and his fellow Congressional Republicans want to strip away access to Medicaid, denying roughly 1.2 million Coloradans stable access to healthcare.
That’s absolutely unacceptable.
It’s why I’m running for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District. We deserve to have a leader who will fight for the needs and interests of their constituents, not kowtow to whatever President Trump and GOP leadership orders.
Friend, whether as an educator, state representative, or State Treasurer, I have a record of fighting for Colorado families. I’m ready to bring over two decades of experience in public service to defeat Gabe Evans and protect our communities. I’d love to have you with me in this campaign. >>
