Donald Trump marks Juneteenth by complaining that workers don't want federal holidays

Folks, we've come to expect blatantly racist behavior from Donald Trump, so his refusal to formally acknowledge or observe the Juneteenth federal holiday — which he laughably once claimed HE made famous — yesterday is unsurprising. But the MAGA cult leader took things several thousand steps further and marked the occasion by complaining that the United States has "too many non-working holidays" that are “costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed,” (he means his wealthy buddies) and that "the workers don't want it either!" We're pretty sure if you actually asked workers what they wanted, it would be MORE time off — Americans take the least amount of vacation time of people in any country in the world — and this wildly out of touch message from a guy who has never worked a real job in his misbegotten life shows once again that his only priority is the funneling of money from the working class into the coffers of the ultrawealthy.

Top Democrat comes under furious GOP fire for opposing Trump's catastrophic bill

Chris Pappas for Senate: Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Chris Pappas did the right thing, as he has for each of his 20 years in public service, and voted against Trump's tax bill because it would kick millions of Americans off their healthcare, and now the GOP is trying to make him pay the price. Within hours of passage, the Republican National Senatorial Committee blasted Pappas on social media for having “just voted against the largest middle class tax cut in history" (an outrageous lie) in an attempt to derail his campaign for the must-win New Hampshire Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Shaheen. Will you chip in to Chris Pappas' campaign to say THANK YOU for doing the right thing and help him fight back against the relentless attacks from Trump's cronies?

Trump now says he'll make decision on joining Israel-Iran conflict in next two weeks
Yesterday Donald told us "nobody knows" if he will join Israel in its war against Iran and that he preferred to wait on making a decision until "one second before it's due." Today we have timeline. The Trump administration announced that a decision on taking military action will come in the next two weeks, citing the potential for further negotiations with Iran as a reason for the delay. Israeli strikes have killed at least 639 people in Iran during the weeklong conflict, The Associated Press reported, citing a Washington-based human rights group. Israel said its death toll remained at 24.

New Smartmatic filing reveals Fox News staffers admitted 2020 election claims were "so f*cking cray" and "MINDBLOWINGLY NUTS"
In the wake of Dominion Voting System’s stunning $787.5 million settlement in its defamation lawsuit against Fox News, all eyes turned to Smartmatic, another voting technology company that had filed its own lawsuit making similar claims that the right-wing propaganda network had made false and defamatory accusations that Smartmatic had engaged in fraud during the 2020 election. This week, the Smartmatic litigation revealed another similarity with the Dominion case: discovery that has unveiled blunt and shocking admissions by Fox employees that they knew the election fraud claims made by Donald Trump and his attorneys, surrogates, and other key supporters were false — along with a multitude of synonyms for crazy, including: "bullshit," "insane," "more than fantastical," "kooky," "so fucking cray," "comic book stuff", and "just MINDBLOWINGLY NUTS." Sounds about right.

Gaza faces a man-made drought as water systems collapse, UNICEF says

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are facing a man-made drought as the battered territory's water systems collapse, the United Nations' children agency said on Friday. "Children will begin to die of thirst ... Just 40% of drinking water production facilities remain functional," UNICEF spokesperson James Elder told reporters in Geneva. UNICEF also reported a 50% increase in children aged six months to 5 years admitted for treatment of malnutrition from April to May in Gaza, and half a million people going hungry. It said the US-backed aid distribution system run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) was "making a desperate situation worse." On Friday at least 25 people awaiting aid trucks or seeking aid were killed by Israeli fire south of Netzarim in central Gaza Strip, according to local health authorities. On Thursday at least 51 people were killed by Israeli gunfire and military strikes, including 12 people who tried to approach a site operated by the GHF in the central Gaza Strip.

Trump blurts out brand new bonkers conspiracy rant on losing election based on "license plates"
Lost in the meandering madness of Donald Trump's impromptu flagpole presser on the White House Lawn Wednesday was a new, half-baked conspiracy theory the MAGA cult leader belched into the ether. We *think* the 79-year-old con man was trying to claim that China helped steal the 2020 election with a fake driver's license scheme that definitely did not happen, but what came out of the nincompoop's face hole was something altogether different: "I guess you saw it yesterday, came out, with China and the license plates. Tens of thousands of cards. They used those cards to vote on the second election, my second, the one 2020. Because as everybody here knows, I won that election by a lot...And now we're gonna put up a beautiful flagpole and we're going to put up a flag." Did you get all that?

Trump administration removing 988 hotline service tailored to LGBTQ+ youth in July
The "pro-life" party of FaMiLy VaLuEs™ is back on their anti-LGBTQ+ bullshit, folks. The Trump administration just announced — during Pride month, of course — that it will kill off the federally funded 988 suicide crisis holine for queer kids later this summer. Sure, the MAGA cult leader's decision will probably lead to an uptick in youth suicides, but the Project 2025 ghouls orchestrating Trump's culture war behind the scenes have radical, dogmatic scores to settle and marginalized people to erase. We can't provide these kids with mental health services AND deny them their identities, people. Mixed messaging!

The US is woefully underprepared for wildfire season, say insiders
In perhaps the least surprising news of the day, experts warn that the Trump administration is about as ready for wildfire season as a toddler with a squirt gun. On the contrary, federal fire crews are growing increasingly concerned that severe cuts to budgets and staff by the Trump regime have hamstrung the agencies that manage roughly 640 million acres of the nation’s public lands, leaving significant gaps in a workforce that supports wildfire mitigation and suppression. To be fair, Donald offered up a brilliant plan to prevent forest fires five whole years ago and nobody took him up on it. If states like California would just break out the broomsticks and simply clean their forest floors we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. Now is probably a good time to also remind everyone that the MAGA cult leader has vowed to axe FEMA and deny states access to future disaster recovery funds. Neat!

MAGA is currently tearing itself apart over Dear Leader's handling of the exploding crisis in the Middle East, and the wild lines of attack between red-hatted allies trying to out-crazy each other are intensifying by the day. You love to hate to see it.

US and Europe face 40% drop in food production, scientists warn
Climate change is coming for us all, and we won't be able to dump the consequences on the poorest peoples in the world forever. In their analysis of more than 12,000 regions across 55 countries, a team of researchers from top US and international institutions found that for every 1°C increase in global temperature, global food production could decline by approximately 120 calories per person per day — equivalent to 4.4% of current daily consumption. "Breadbasket" regions are particularly vulnerable. "It's almost like in this context, those with the most to lose, lose the most," said Andrew Hultgren, assistant professor at the University of Illinois and a lead author of the study. "In the US, we often think of the impacts of climate change being more heavily felt in poorer regions of the world. Here we find the opposite, where it is US farmers in the heartland that actually face some of the largest risks to their future yields."
